Josh Wohlrabe is a Music Education and Performance Major with an emphasis in Composition at Adams State College. He is the Principal Percussionist for the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble as well as the Timpanist for the Orchestra at Adams State.
While in school, he has performed at numerous events including the annual Day of percussion (sponsored by the Percussive Arts Society), Drumming for Peace (an event held to recognize those harmed by domestic violence), and performances with Acoustic Blues playing various genres and styles from jazz and blues to rock.
Josh has studied with and is still continuing to study with Professor James Doyle, director of Jazz and percussion instructor at Adams State. Josh is versatile in numerous percussion instruments including drum set, marimba, timpani, various world hand drums, and marching percussion. He has performed in audition-only concerts such as honor bands in high school, honors recitals in college and the National Collegiate Honor Band. He was the jazz drummer for his high school jazz band and has also played for church groups as well.
Along with being a performer, Josh composes as well. He has composed pieces for multiple instruments and has had two pieces of his performed thus far. Josh recently had the opportunity to do a master class on his piece under the instruction of L.A. composer Jennie Brandon.
Josh has taught individual drum lessons and has lead drum sectionals at multiple schools around the San Louis Valley. During his second semester at college he worked with Guatemalan students, teaching them how to read notes and helping them learn their countries national instrument, the marimba.
Josh thoroughly enjoys teaching, is very friendly and positive, and works very well with his students regardless of age or level.
